Sheffield Experiments With Food Waste Collection Service

Sheffield is doing a twelve-week-long experiment to see if collecting food waste from its 8,600 households can benefit their landfills. Each household was provided with the proper materials and education to properly participate.

Sheffield has begun a 12-week long project to help promote the recycling of food waste to its 8,600 households.

Small indoor food waste caddies and larger outdoor bins were provided to each household. Bins will be collected from homes and the food waste will be brought to anaerobic digestion facilities for recycling. The waste will then be turned into bio-fuel and nutrient-rich fertilizer.
