A single-vehicle accident involving a vacuum truck is the culprit for potentially leaking food waste into the Shawsheen River in Massachusetts.
A truck owned by Action King Services, of Lowell, Mass., was carrying food waste from a local restaurant when it crashed through a guard rail and rolled over. The damage from the accident caused the truck to leak the waste down Old Billerica Road, downhill towards the river.
Mass DEP’s Greg Murray said that some of the waste may have entered the river but believed that the waste would not create an environmental problem and that the river would be cleaned.
The driver and passenger of the truck left the scene with minor injuries.
