Alpharetta, Ga., to Provide Residents with Glass Recycling Bins

Within the last year, cities and counties like Knoxville, Tenn.Kingsport, Tenn.Sioux City, Iowa, DeKalb County, Ga., Chambersburg, Pa., and New Orleans  have stopped offering curbside collection for glass. But in Alpharetta, Ga., Republic Services is gearing up to provide residents with new 18-gallon glass recycling bins.

The new glass recycling services, which are being offered for an additional fee, will begin on December 5.

AJC has more details:

Alpharetta residents will receive their new, 18-gallon bins for glass recycling Nov. 13 to 18, with Republic Services resuming curbside glass pick-ups on Dec. 5, city officials said.

Earlier this year, recycling companies stopped accepting glass, saying it was prone to shattering and contaminating other recyclables, such as paper and cardboard. Residents were told to stop putting out glass with their recyclables.
