Framingham, Mass. — Ameresco Inc., Framingham, Mass., is joining with Santa Cruz County, Calif., in a landfill-gas-to-energy project. Under the terms of the agreement, the firm will build a plant at the county’s Buena Vista Landfill. The plant is scheduled for completion in late 2005. Once the plant is operation, Ameresco will purchase landfill gas from the facility and use it to produce electricity. Two local utilities — Alameda Power & Telecom and the City of Palo Alto Utilities will purchase the electricity. The plant will produce enough electricity to power approximately 3,000 homes.
