EPA Co-Sponsors Brownfields Conference
Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 is co-sponsoring Brownfields 2001, a conference showcasing research related to Brownfields policy, cleanup and redevelopment issues. Ag-Bag Announces Second Quarter Results
Warrenton, Ore. - Ag-Bag International Ltd. has announced net sales for the second quarter ended June 30, 2001, of $10.1 million, compared with $9.65 million for the same quarter last year. The company also announced net income of $460,597, compared with net income of $596,700 for the same quarter last year.

SWANA Solicits Proposals for Compost Training and Certification Program
Silver Spring, Md. - The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) is soliciting proposals through Aug. 31, 2001, to develop a training course and certification exam for composting organic materials typically found in municipal solid waste (MSW). OSHA Nominee Stresses Balance to Cure Ergonomics Woes
Washington, D.C. - John Henshaw, newly nominated assistant labor secretary for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), made a statement Thursday stressing the need for an even balance between voluntary efforts and enforcement when dealing with ergonomics issues. More must be done through partnerships with companies and voluntary programs to prevent workplace injuries, he said.

Waste Management Ends Contract with Oakleaf
Houston - Waste Management Inc. has terminated its contract with waste broker Oakleaf Waste Management LLC. A Waste Management spokesperson said that Oakleaf had canceled service at 50 percent of its locations, spurring Waste Management’s decision.

EIA Testifies Before Congress on Interstate Waste
Washington, D.C. - Bruce Parker, president and CEO of the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA), testifies today before Congress on the possible passage of several interstate waste bills that would grant states and local governments the authority to put a cap on the flow of imported waste.

Acquisitions
- A subsidiary of Allied Waste Industries Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., has entered a merger agreement to acquire Star Services Group Inc., Pompano Beach, Fla., in a cash transaction valued at approximately $34 million plus assumption of all of Star Services Group’s long-term assets.
- SCS Engineers, Bellevue, Wash., has acquired Applied Hydrogeologic Research Inc., Lynnwood, Wash.
- Aero Industries Inc., Indianapolis, has acquired OCA, Streetsboro, Ohio.
- Agco, Duluth, Ga., has acquired Ag-Chem Equipment Co. Inc., Jackson, Minn.

Agreements
- Dana Corp., Toledo Ohio, has entered into a supply agreement with Paccar Inc., Bellevue, Wash. Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems operations will supply standard equipment on Paccar’s Kenworth and Peterbilt Class 6, 7 and 8 commercial vehicles.

- ElectroniCycle Inc., Spencer, Mass., has announced a combined merger and expansion plan involving principals of American Retroworks Inc., Middlebury, Vt.
- Sebright Products Inc., Hopkins, Mich., has installed a completely integrated robotic waste handling system at Royal Plastics in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Research
