  • Biocorp Inc., Redondo Beach, Calif., was awarded the use of the “Compostable Logo” on its biodegradable plastic bags. The logo program is a joint effort between the U.S. Composting Council (USCC), Harrisburg, Pa., and the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI), New York, to identify plastic products designed to biodegrade in municipal and commercial composting systems.

  • The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Dearborn, Mich., has selected Charles F. Knight, chairman of Emerson, St. Louis, Mo., as an honorary member.

  • The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Washington, D.C., has awarded the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Warrendale, Pa., approximately $700,000 over the next two years in cost-shared programs that will be used to facilitate the development of codes and standards for fuel cell vehicles.
