Bostonians have been cursing left and right, and for once, not at the New York Yankees. Instead, trash haulers have been on the receiving end of the abuse after Mayor Thomas Menino ordered residents to remove their parking space placeholders from the streets. As is customary in the city, residents place personal objects such as chairs to hold street parking spaces while their cars are being used. After an unusually heavy snowstorm, however, the mayor ordered residents to remove their belongings. Residents who did not comply within 98 hours saw their items picked up by trash haulers the city had ordered to cleanup the streets. In some instances, residents put new placeholders on the streets less than an hour after the garbage trucks had gone by. The trash haulers are undoubtedly thankful that, so far, Bostonians have only been hurling insults.
