Los Angeles -- A federal judge ruled on Aug. 23 that California smog officials can order public agencies to buy cleaner cars, buses and trucks for their fleets. This landmark ruling centers on new rules proposed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). The rules apply to fleets of 15 or more and include trash trucks, street sweepers and buses.
