The City of Thornton, Colo., has launched a year-round, appointment-based curbside waste and recycling service called Thornton Click & Haul. The program allows residents to set up a specific time for trash removal and costs $65 for two pickups.

"For that fee, we'll go out on the day the resident wants and make their debris disappear," Adam Lovato, Thornton's Environmental services manager, told the Denver Post. "Comparatively, a single pickup load straight to the landfill will cost a person at least a $75 gate fee, and other similar private services can cost around $100."

The program began in January and so far about 200 residents have taken advantage of the service. While the service is able to accept a variety of waste and recycling items, it cannot take washers and dryers, tires, paint, electronics, chemicals or hazardous waste.

The Denver Post has the details:

Thornton residents who don't know what to do with their mounds of debris from a home remodel, trees and branches, old furniture and large, outdated or broken appliances can schedule a time online to have a city crew come out and take the items off the curb.

The new Thornton Click & Haul program is a year-round, appointment-based curbside service. Residents who use the city's trash and recycling services can set up a time online or over the phone to have Thornton's Environmental Services team remove large items and haul them off to either be recycled or buried in a landfill.

The service costs $65, which shows up in the regular utility bill. The fee includes up to two pickup loads of rubble.
