The Columbus Board of Public Works approved a one-year contract extension with Rumpke to continue using its transfer station for the Columbus Recycles Program.
Earlier this year, the Columbus Board approved a three-month contract with Rumpke, looking for a cheaper company to work with following a drastic increase with the city’s previous waste manager. The city’s previous service used a different transfer station, raising costs significantly for Columbus.
The city originally wanted to start with a one-year contract with Rumpke, but due to costs, settled for a three-month deal.
The terms of the one-year contract with Rumpke are largely the same as the three-month deal with the main difference being loading fees are $160 per load, rather than $15 per son. Bryan Burton, Direct of Public Works, says he believes the flat fee would save costs.
