Covanta Mourns Death Of Richard Seelinger

Naples, Fla. — Richard W. Seelinger, the former executive vice president of Ogden Martin Systems Inc., which is now Fairfield, N.J.-based Covanta Energy Corp., died at his home in Naples, Fla., on Sept. 16. He was 77.

Seelinger joined Ogden in 1983. During his 10 years with the firm, he was responsible for adapting its waste-to-energy technology, which was used heavily in Europe and Asia, so that it met the requirements of the federal Clean Air Act. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers awarded Seelinger with its "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; two sons, Richard Seelinger of Seattle and David Seelinger of Old Tappan, N.J.; a daughter, Patricia Sciaino of Mahwah, N.J.; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Seelinger of Seattle and Madison Seelinger of Old Tappan.
