The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has announced the winners of its sixth annual Vehicle Safety Awards, which honor members who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the safety of employees and public through effective fleet safety programs. The awards come in two categories: Best Fleet Award and Pacesetter Award.

“Building a strong safety culture is just as important on the road and in the vehicle maintenance process as it is elsewhere in the facility, regardless of the size of your fleet,” said Commodor Hall, transportation safety director at ISRI, in a statement. “It includes not just recognizing the need for the safety of your drivers but also others on the road and at facilities. Vehicle safety records are often a good indicator of a strong safety culture. ISRI’s Vehicle Safety Awards recognize those companies that stand out from their peers when it comes to their vehicle safety records. These companies are clearly the best in their class and set the bar for others to achieve.”

Based on class size, the Best Fleet Award is presented to the ISRI member with the lowest vehicle accident rate, and the lowest U.S. Department of Transportation Recordable rate in 2017. The Pacesetter Award, also based on class, is granted to the ISRI member using the same criteria as the Best Fleet Award but covering a three-year period, in this case January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017.
