Los Angeles Airport Nears Diversion Goal

In 2008, the Los Angeles International Airport diverted more than 66.5 percent of its trash from landfills. In 2007, the airport’s diversion rate was 65 percent.

The airport has set a goal of a 70 percent landfill diversion rate by 2015.

“We are committed to implementing initiatives that help us surpass our own and the city of Los Angeles' 70 percent waste diversion target by 2015, and support the city's efforts to become a zero waste city by 2030,” said Construction and Maintenance Services Assistant Director David Waldner in a press release. “It looks like we will achieve our target in the very near future.”
