NWRA Board of Trustees Announces Michael E. Hoffman as President and CEO

Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) has selected Michael E. Hoffman to lead the organization as president and CEO. NWRA’s Board of Trustees selected Hoffman after a comprehensive search and interview process that included a pool of highly qualified candidates from inside and outside of the waste and recycling industry. Hoffman has been an active member of NWRA for several years and is a veteran of the sector with decades of financial experience with the environmental industry business model. In 2020, Hoffman also was honored as an inductee into NWRA’s Hall of Fame.

“I am pleased to welcome Michael as our association’s new leader,” said Board of Trustees Chairman and New Way Trucks Chief Sales Officer Don Ross. “Hoffman’s background provides a well-rounded skillset ideally suited to lead our association. Coupled with his extensive working knowledge of the industry and his intimate understanding of the challenges facing NWRA members, our board agreed that Michael is the best choice to lead NWRA into the future.”

Hoffman holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Widener University and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University. For more than 38 years, Hoffman’s focus has been the waste and recycling industry, having most recently served as Stifel’s managing director and group head of diversified industrial research for the environmental services, specialty distribution and other industrial sectors.

Working in close cooperation with Chairman Don Ross and the Board of Trustees, NWRA can be the go-to membership organization to bring market-based solutions for the breadth of environmental topics facing our society.”

Board of Trustees member and Environmental Solutions Group Director of Business Development Tony Romano led the search committee and said of Hoffman’s industry acumen: “Our association values the importance of telling the story of the essential services provided by our member companies and advocating on issues impacting our industry today. Michael is clearly focused on the mission of NWRA, and with his leadership, NWRA will continue to be the nation’s leading waste, recycling and environmental advocacy organization.”

Hoffman will begin his duties with NWRA on June 10, 2024.
