Quebec Approves WMI Bioreactor Landfill

Montreal, Quebec, Canada — Canadian Waste Services Inc., a unit of Houston-based Waste Management Inc. (WMI), has received approval from the Quebec Environment Department to develop a "bioreactor" landfill gas-to-energy project near Montreal. By recirculating moisture, bioreactor landfills accelerate the decomposition of organic wastes and thus increase landfill airspace by as much as 30 percent, according to WMI.
