Sarasota County Government is looking for a new leader for the Solid Waste Unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in the management of multi-faceted solid waste system for a public entity.

The position is responsible for the overall leadership, fiscal management, planning and implementation of operating programs and capital projects. The system includes a Class I landfill, transfer station, yard waste composting facility, construction and demolition debris processing facility, household hazardous waste collection facility, and materials recovery facility. The Unit operates under an enterprise fund with an annual budget of approximately $50M. The programs are funded through special assessments and landfill tipping fees.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in the management of a multi-faceted solid waste system.

Major Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall leadership, management and administration and all other activities assigned to Solid Waste Management; Provides leadership and direction to reach the goals and objectives of Solid Waste Management; Develops and implements strategic and long-term plans for Solid Waste Management; Coordinates and assists in the preparation of Solid Waste Management’s annual operating and capital budget.
