Dakota County, located right outside Minneapolis, MN, has acquired the land it needs to build a $24 million recycling facility.

The new facility will be located in Lakeville, south of Minneapolis, and will ease the pressure on existing, nearby drop-off centers and address the increased demand for waste and recycling services.

The new building, dubbed The Recycling Zone Plus, is being planned in partnership with Scott County to service residents in both counties. The center will receive household hazardous waste and recyclables.

Construction is anticipated to begin in June or July and planned to open in the fall of 2025 if the counties can secure another $8 million in state funding.
