Stephen Johnson Sworn In as EPA's Deputy Administrator

Washington, D.C. — Stephen L. Johnson was sworn in yesterday as the deputy administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). President George W. Bush appointed Johnson on Friday, July 30. Johnson has served as acting deputy administrator for the past year.

"I count on Steve to manage the day-to-day operations of the agency," said EPA Administrator Michael Leavitt in a statement. "He does this with tremendous talent and grace, applying his leadership skills, knowledge of the issues and appreciation for EPA employees to make our work better."
