The National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) today announced that Stephen B. Smith, President and COO of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Hydro Geo Chem, has been elected to the NSWMA Executive Committee on its Board of Governors. Smith has represented NSWMA’s Arizona chapter on the Board of Directors since 2003.

“Steve brings a much needed technical background to NSWMA’s leadership,” said Bruce J. Parker, NSWMA’s President and CEO. “He understands all aspects of the industry from business issues to waste collection and building and operating landfills and transfer stations. He has already proven a willingness to share ideas by participating in the Arizona Chapter’s legislative and regulatory committees and then bringing those efforts to the Board of Governors.”

Smith’s appointment took effect on Jan. 1, 2007.
