Austin, Texas-based Texas Disposal Systems has named former Southwest Airlines Chief Operating Officer Jim Wimberly as the firm’s new president.

“Jim is the ideal executive to help fulfill Texas Disposal Systems’ strategic growth plan, while staying true to our company values and mission,” said Bob Gregory, CEO and co-founder of Texas Disposal, in a press release. “Like Southwest Airlines — which is consistently recognized as one of the world’s most admired companies — Texas Disposal Systems believes business success is measured by more than just the bottom line. We make it our mission to keep as a priority the best interests of our customers, employees, neighbors, the community and the environment. Jim’s values align precisely with ours, and he has the business acumen and leadership skills to help us act on our growth plan and continue to provide superior performance for our customers.”

Wimberly, 56, retired from Southwest Airlines last year after more than 20 years with the company. During his time as COO, the airline’s revenue grew from $800 million a year to $9 billion.
