Two Daytona Waste Pro Drivers Jump into Action After Car Crash
May 10, 2024
DAYTONA, FL – Two Daytona Waste Pros are being hailed as heroes after being the first on the scene of a traffic accident and jumping in to help save both drivers.
Waste Pro driver Andre Roberts and helper Carlos Harrel were on their daily route and observed a horrific traffic accident involving two vehicles that collided head-on at the intersection of Dunn Avenue and Jimmy Ann Blvd in Daytona, FL. Immediately after witnessing the crash, both Waste Pros got out of their truck to lend a hand and see how they could help the drivers. They noticed both drivers were in and out of consciousness and needed immediate medical attention. Both vehicles appeared totaled, and they saw smoke coming from one car that quickly ignited into flames. Without hesitation, they rushed to the drivers’ aid. Carlos and Andre pulled one of the drivers through their car window and carried her to a safer location. Using their Waste Pro training, they then deployed their truck’s fire extinguisher. The flames began dissipating when Daytona Beach Fire Department and local law enforcement arrived.
After the two drivers were cared for and transported to the local hospital, Andre and Carlos were met with an outpouring of gratitude from the Daytona Beach Fire and Police Department. Their heroic act was not only recognized but also deeply appreciated by the community.
“Some call it fate; others may say they were at the right place and time. As members of Waste Pro, we say that being the “Distinguishable Difference” means improving our environment and the quality of life in the community—the Waste Pro Way!” shared their route supervisor, Shawnathon Gordon.
Chief Operating Officer Keith Banasiak also said, “Words cannot express how grateful we all are that these Waste Pros took action! This is THE WASTE PRO WAY!” Both team members are being recognized by their local division management team and by Waste Pro's corporate team.
