Announcements

  • Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell recently announced that the state has issued 116 grants totaling $20 million to support municipal recycling programs.

  • Ladson, S.C.-based American LaFrance has selected the site for its new corporate headquarters. The 45-acre site, located in North Charleston, will house a 57,000-square-foot headquarters facility and a 42,000-square-foot assembly plant.

  • The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has taken delivery of its first hybrid vehicle that is powered by landfill gas. SWACO will receive the landfill gas from the Franklin County Landfill.

  • Omaha, Neb.-based HDR has acquired Springfield, Ill.-based Cochran & Wilken Inc., and engineering and natural resources consulting firm. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

  • Braintree, Mass.-based Clean Harbors has agreed to purchase Teris from SITA USA Inc., a subsidiary of Suez Environment. The purchase includes an incinerator in El Dorado, Ark.

  • Raleigh, N.C.-based Waste Industries has announced the acquisition of five hauling operations in the Southeast that are expected to add $4 million in annual revenue. The operations will tuck into the company's Atlanta West operation, with waste going to its Grady Road landfill.
