Waste Industries Gains Assets, Contracts

Waste Industries Inc. (WII), Raleigh, N.C., recently announced three acquisitions and two new government contracts. On Feb. 18, WII acquired the assets of Curb Appeal New Home Services Inc., Morrisville, N.C., which provides residential and construction cleanup services to areas near Research Triangle Park. The company also offers construction collection.

Providing construction cleanup with 12- and 15-cubic-yard roll off boxes is a natural precursor to offering residential service to homebuyers, says Lonnie C. Poole Jr., WII CEO.

The company also acquired equipment from Clarys Container Corp., Wythville, Va., for WII's Wythville operation. Clarys provides industrial and residential collection services.

WII also was awarded two multi-year government contracts for residential, commercial and industrial collection services, including one with the Department of Defense at Warner Robbins Air Force Base near WII's Warner Robbins, Ga., transfer station.

The other contract provides commercial and residential recycling services for Carolina Beach, N.C., from WII's branch office in Wilmington, N.C.

Additionally, WII has acquired a landfill in Decatur County, Tenn., which receives waste from six surrounding counties and five transfer stations.

The acquisition is part of a long-range joint development agreement between WII and its partner, Liberty Waste Services, Decatur County, to acquire and develop other hauling companies and transfer stations throughout the Southeast.

The combined annual revenue of the contracts and acquisitions is approximately $5 million.
