wp.jpgCOLLIER COUNTY, FL – October 5, 2023 – The quick action of a Waste Pro driver in Collier County helped save the life of a local woman. It was Labor Day morning, and Ray Perez was on his route in the Ave Maria neighborhood of Collier County. When he saw Mrs. Joan Lennon had fallen in the street and could not get up. Thinking quickly, Ray called his dispatch, then 911, to get help immediately. He then flagged down a nearby neighbor to help get Mrs. Lennon to a safer location. Once first responders arrived on the scene, Mrs. Lennon was taken by ambulance to the local hospital. She had broken both her wrist and patella and remained in the hospital for a week, receiving surgery on her broken kneecap.

Waste Pro’s Divisional Vice President Bill Jones shares, “Ray went above and beyond his job duties. Without hesitation, he stopped to help.”  Site Manager Jimmy Nieves adds, “Ray was genuinely concerned for her well-being and not only ensured that she was safe but also took the extra step of seeking help to facilitate the necessary assistance. His actions truly exemplify his dedication to our customers, and his willingness to go the extra mile is a testament to the Waste Pro Way!”

Ray is an active member of the Collier County community and has been a solid waste driver with Waste Pro in the area for over ten years. He looks forward to working the grill on the weekends for the local Pop Warner and High School games. “We are grateful Ray was there that day and are honored to share this story and his efforts as a Good Samaritan.” Mrs. Lennon’s son shared when reached for an update on her condition. Mrs. Lennon continues to improve and has started therapy to regain mobility.
