Waste Service Resumes in Irma-Affected Areas
Across Florida, solid waste departments and haulers began resuming service and beginning the process of clearing storm debris.
After suspending service this weekend and through Monday, waste pickup has resumed in a number of Florida communities affected by Hurricane Irma.
Tamp Solid Waste Services resumed commercial and residential pickup this morning. In addition, the McKay Bay Disposal Facility resumed regular business hours.
Some service has been restored in Palm Beach County, Fla. The county’s transfer stations, landfill and waste-to-energy facilities resumed regular business hours.
However, the solid waste authority’s recovered materials processing facility is without power and cannot process any recyclables. So for now, the county is only collecting garbage.
Waste Industries also resumed service for its customers in affected regions today.
In Clearwater, Fla., service also resumed today. Residents who are usually scheduled for trash and recycling services Monday will have their trash picked up Tuesday. Those scheduled for Tuesday pick up should plan to have their trash and recycling picked up Wednesday. Thursday and Friday pick up services will be on their regular schedule, officials said.
In Bradenton, Fla., officials are focusing on debris removal first before resuming standard trash removal services.
Haulers also took to Twitter to make customers aware of suspensions and resumptions of service.
