A Cleveland, Ohio, waste collection employee was shot and killed on November 13 while collecting trash on his route.
D’Shane Wilcox, age 28 and a father of two, was hired as a garbage collector in the city in May 2017. The shooting occurred at 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday. No arrests have been made.
Police are asking for the public’s help in solving the case. They report they only have a brief description of the shooter: a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Police are still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting.
“This is the second incident SWANA is aware of this year in which a waste collection employee was shot and killed on the route,” said David Biderman, executive director and CEO of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). “These incidents frustrate me because Mr. Wilcox was simply doing his job—difficult, often dirty work—and was killed. SWANA is in contact with the city of Cleveland about this horrific incident and has expressed its deepest condolences.”
