Woman in Critical Condition After Falling into Dayton, OH Trash Compactor

A woman is in “very critical condition” after falling into a trash compactor in Dayton, Ohio earlier this week.

A woman is in “very critical condition” after falling into a trash compactor in Dayton, Ohio earlier this week.

The woman was discovered after maintenance workers, who were in the area to clean the trash compactor, heard her yelling. Once they began clearing the area to reach her, the workers saw the woman’s legs and then called for help. It took roughly 90 minutes to free the woman who remains in “very critical condition.”

“We were led by maintenance to the basement of the apartment building here and we found a female who was severely entrapped, severely entangled in the actual trash compactor in the basement,” said Nick Judge, a district chief for the Dayton Fire Department.

“We recognized right away that this was going to be a very, very lengthy and very complex extrication — a very lengthy rescue operation.”
