Arizona Landfills Agree to Fines

Two Arizona landfills owned by Republic Services have agreed to pay fines totaling $58,000 as part of a consent judgment for regulatory violations, according to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).

The La Paz County Landfill has agreed to pay a $47,000 fine after an ADEQ inspection team found that soil contaminated by petroleum and hot lead slag was being used as landfill cover. The Copper Mountain Landfill has agreed to pay an $11,000 fine after ADEQ inspectors found that contaminated soil had been spread over a landfill slope.
