ABC Disposal Service Inc. and a sister company have acquired two New England waste operations.

New Bedford, Mass.-based ABC purchased the southeastern Massachusetts roll-off business of the Boston-based United Waste Management. The acquisition increases ABC's roll-off division presence throughout southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Rhode Island, ABC said in a news release.

ABC’s sister company, New Bedford Waste Services LLC (NBWS), bought two local transfer stations in Massachusetts from United Waste Management. Thos facilities are the Rochester Environmental Park, an 890-ton-per-day municipal solid waste and construction and demolition processing facility and transfer station, and Sandwich Resource Recovery, a 625-ton-per-day construction and demolition transfer station.

No purchase price was given for the transactions.

"Combining the capabilities of these transfer stations with our current 1,500-ton-per-day limit allows New Bedford Waste Services (also based in New Bedford) to manage as many as 3,015 tons of materials each day," said Michael Camara, vice president and general manager. "These two facilities improve our ability to market a larger percentage of materials, which can then be recycled and reused.”

Along with processing and recycling construction and demolition debris, NBWS is permitted to transfer municipal solid waste for disposal at various landfills and waste-to-energy plants.

ABC serves more than 15,000 commercial and industrial customers, and more than 45,000 residential customers. The 44-year-old company collects, transports and disposes of more than 300,000 tons of non-hazardous waste annually and now operates facilities in New Bedford, Bellingham, Rochester, Sandwich and Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard.
