Recology Acquiring Eel River Resource Recovery in Calif.

“The owner wants to retire,” he said about Harry Hardin’s decision to sell his business. “ ... Everybody’s supposed to keep their jobs is what we were told.”

“He came to us to see if we’d be willing to make a deal,” Sollom said about Hardin.

The Rio Dell City Council approved of switching city solid waste and recycling services from Eel River to Recology earlier this month. The Fortuna City Council made a similar decision at a meeting Monday.

“I would like to welcome Recology to the Friendly City and look forward to working with them in the coming years. After hearing their presentation at a council meeting I feel confident that the excellent service we are accustomed to here in Fortuna will continue,” Fortuna Mayor Sue Long said in an email.

“I would really like to thank Harry Hardin for all the years of service in Fortuna,” she wrote. “Harry is one of our unsung heroes in town. He has always been willing to donate to events and fundraisers that support our youth, our business community, and our city. I will miss him and want to wish him much happiness in his retirement.”
