Upstate Shredding LLC-Ben Weitman has purchased scrap yard operation Hornell Waste Material Co. for an undisclosed amount.

The Owego, N.Y.-based Upstate Shredding said in a news release the acquisition of the Hornell, N.Y.-based scrap firm should close by mid-October.

“We do not yet have a location in Steuben County so this acquisition is filling a great need to serve Hornell and the surrounding areas,” said Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding.

Hornell Waste was founded in 1908. Its owner, Myer Spitulnik, died in 2012.

The acquisition marks Upstate Shredding’s 15th location, and it looks to continue to expand.
