Due to a recently passed law, New York hotels with 50 or more rooms will no longer provide small plastic toiletry bottles, aiming to reduce plastic waste.

Mini bottles of shampoo, body wash, and lotions will be banned from hotels starting January 1, 2025. Hotels with less than 50 rooms must remove all small plastic bottles by January 1, 2026.

The law, signed in 2021 by Gov. Kathy Hochul, is in place to reduce single-use plastic waste, such as mini hotel bottles. Fines will be handed out to violators with that money going toward the Environmental Protection Fund.

Instead of tossing the bottles, hotels are encouraged to donate remaining plastic bottles to charity or recycle them.
