Ohio Governor Wants to Ban Local Governments from Regulating Single-Use Plastics
October 23, 2020
The pandemic has brought about a slew of new sanitation initiatives, including the discontinued use of reusable bags at many retail locations.
Now that more is known about COVID-19 transmission, stores are once again allowing customers to bring their own bags, and cities are hitting play on their sustainability initiatives once again.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is preparing to sign a bill that will prevent municipalities from banning single-use plastic bags, saying that "the pandemic raises health questions about banning plastic bags in favor of reusable bags and containers."
House Bill 242 will put a moratorium on any local taxes and fees meant at discouraging the use of single-use plastics, allowing for "more uniformity in business regulations."
