Approximately ten million tons of plastic trash enters the oceans each year.

SeaChange has created a technology that will save the oceans from the plastic pollution. They add a Plasma Enhanced Melter (PEM) to ships which uses plasma arc technology to “delete” plastic and other trash before it enters the ocean. The technology uses high temperature and high electrical energy to heat the waste and the organic material can be burned down into a combustible gas called syngas, which can be used as clean fuel for SeaChange’s ships, while inorganic components wind up as glassy slag.

SeaChange’s first mission will take place in Indonesia in 2021. The country has approximately 0.5 and 1.4 million tons of plastic waste in the ocean yearly.
