University of Akron Receives $2M Grant from US DOE for EV Battery Recycling

The University of Akron is the recipient of a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to promote electric vehicle component recycling.

The University of Akron is the recipient of a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to promote electric vehicle component recycling.

The University of Akron will use the grant money to keep plastics and polymers from electric vehicle battery packs from ending up in landfills. The grant money will also be used to retrieve and recycle the batteries, gathering the recoverable materials to create new batteries.

The Akron grant is just part of the $45 million the U.S. Department of Energy is giving to eight projects around the country to address electric vehicle batteries and other component recycling.
