Researchers at Rutgers University and Harvard University have developed an alternative to food storage plastics.
The invention is a plant-based "spray" composed of fibers based on biopolymers and polysaccharides that wrap the food to keep it protected.
Research shows the spray to be defensive against bruising and harmful bacteria making it a potential replacement for the plastics we use to protect fruits, vegetables, or even bread. Though the project is still in development, it holds the capacity to eliminate the production of many single-use plastics.
