The Recycling Association warns officials that a ban on plastic exports might not result in the halt of waste crimes they are hoping for. The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has pressured governments to implement bans on plastic exports to be put into full effect by 2027, however, not everyone agrees this is an effective solution.
Simon Ellin, The Recycling Associations Chief Executive said the following on the matter: “Banning plastic exports to solve waste crime would be like trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer. It would penalize legitimate exporters while doing nothing to prevent illegal operators."
