Bush Asks Congress for More EPA Funding for '05

Washington, D.C. -- President Bush has submitted a $2.4 trillion budget to Congress. The 2005 budget proposes eliminating 65 programs and cutting 63 others to focus heavily on homeland security and efforts to fight terrorism. However, the budget proposal includes $7.76 billion for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is a $133 million increase over the 2004 budget request. The request provides $210 million for Brownfields cleanup, a 24 percent increase from 2004, and $1.4 billion for the Superfund program, a 10 percent increase from 2004.
