Washington – This week, Canada became the 16th nation to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Methane to Markets partnership. The international initiative promotes the recovery and use of methane, prevents greenhouse gas emissions and provides clean energy sources to communities and businesses. The partnership targets landfills, underground coal mines and natural gas and oil system, which are the three major sources of methane.
By 2015, the Methane to Markets Partnership potentially could reduce annual methane emissions by up to 50 million metric tons of carbon equivalent or recovery of 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
