Covanta Recognized as an Energy Innovator

Covanta Energy, Fairfield, N.J., has received the Energy Innovator Award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

"We are proud to be a leading provider of sustainable waste management solutions that generate clean, renewable energy and result in greenhouse gas reductions," said Paul Gilman, chief sustainability officer for Covanta, in a press release. "The success of our efforts is a result of strong collaboration between the communities we serve and our employees. Working together, we are helping to provide our country with clean, renewable energy and simultaneously combating global warming."

Covanta operates 35 waste-to-energy facilities in the United States that convert more than 16 million tons of municipal solid waste into energy each year.
