EPA Programs Aim to Reduce West Coast Diesel Emissions

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced $6 million in voluntary projects in California, Oregon and Washington aimed at curbing diesel emissions. The EPA hopes to secure an additional $100 million in funding over five years for future projects.

The initiative targets long-haul trucks, cargo ships, trains, farm equipment and earth-moving construction equipment. EPA officials estimate that 8,000 tons of cancer-causing pollutants will be removed, saving more than $2 billion in healthcare costs.
