Houston Solid Waste Department Faces Unexpected Gas Costs

Houston — Gas bills are not only wreaking havoc on family budgets: They’re taking their toll on the Houston Solid Waste Department’s budget as well. According to KHOU-TV in Houston, the department has racked up about $1.8 million in unexpected gasoline bills during the current fiscal year. The city’s contracts with its private garbage haulers call for "extra money to cover escalating fuel costs," according to the report.
