Kentucky Gov. Steven Beshear has announced that the Kentucky Pride Fund will award more than $2.9 million in grants to clean up 293 illegal dumps in 52 counties.

According to a report by WKYT-TV, participating counties agree to provide a 25 percent match for the cleanup of individual illegal dumps, which cost less than $50,000 to clean up. The state Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet can waive the 25 percent match on any dumps costing more than $50,000 to remediate.
