Michigan Trash Decreases 6 Percent

A recent report from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) shows that in fiscal year 2007 the total waste disposed of in the state’s landfills decreased 6 percent from the preceding fiscal year. According to the report, total imported waste also decreased 10 percent from more than 19 million cubic yards to approximately 17 million cubic yards.

Canadian imports, which continue to be the largest source of imported waste, also decreased. The DEQ reports a decrease of nearly 1 million cubic yards to approximately 11 million cubic yards. For further information about the report, visit www.michigan.gov/deq.
