Penn. Department of Environmental Protection finds trash hauler violations during random inspections
November 14, 2005
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) uncovered 14 violations among 442 trash trucks during one of the organization’s recent random inspections. According to the organization, the violations occurred among the trucks that were using two landfills in southcentral Pennsylvania. The inspections are part of the state’s efforts to ensure that trash haulers abide by state environmental and safety laws.
Because trash haulers must be authorized to operate in the state, the DEP verifies compliance history and checks for outstanding violations during the inspections. The organization also checks other items such as signs, fire extinguishers, load leakage and waste covers for potential violations.
