Al-jon

Al-jon, Ottumwa, Iowa, offers the 126,000 pound (lb.) Advantage 600 landfill compactor. Powered by a 600 horsepower (hp) Caterpillar or John Deere engine, the compactor features heavy wheel cleats and a 17-foot-wide blade. An electronic control system calibrates each wheel's speed and monitors machine functions, the company says. Joystick steering with cruise control, a rear vision camera system and air conditioning system are standard, according to the company.

Terex

The new 3-90E Trashmaster from Terex, Westport, Conn., offers a triangular wheel design and 7.25-inch high alloy steel cleats. The Trashmaster also features a 525-hp diesel engine and a 13 feet, 8 inch compaction width. It can create compaction forces up to 767 lbs. per linear inch, the company says. The 3-90E is available with optional equipment such as hydraulic tank heater, 24-12 volt converter and a pre-lube starter kit.

Volvo

Volvo Construction Equipment, Asheville, N.C., produces a series of wheel loaders that are designed to combine the features of Volvo's E-series loaders with equipment designed for waste handling. The loaders' engine output ranges from 140 hp to 352 hp, with lengths from 24 feet, 7 inches to 31 feet, 7 inches. Waste application options include steel refuse buckets that can pin or hook on, headlight guards and air-intake protection that prevents debris from entering the engine compartment, the company says. For heavy-duty waste, options include steel battery boxes, a windshield guard and front frame cover plate to prevent debris from collecting inside the frame, according to the company.

Phelps Industries, Little Rock, Ark., manufactures the Phelps Landfill Trailer Tipper designed with hydraulic outriggers and approach ramps. The low profile tipper operates using a hydraulic power unit with six-cylinder CAT diesel engine and has 50 ton lifting capacity. The rear axles are placed on pivoting frames for ease of movement, the company says.

Komatsu, Vernon Hills, Ill, offers a line of mid-size waste handlers that includes the WA380-5, WA400-5, WA450-5 and WA480-5. The wheel loaders feature customizable guarding packages. Loading capacities range from 7.5 cubic yards (cu. yds.) to 9 cu. yds., and pushing capacities range from 6 cu. yds. to 8 cu. yds.
