The board of directors for the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Md., unanimously approved a provisional chapter in Puerto Rico. For the next 12 months, the chapter will work to prepare its bylaws and articles of incorporation, and develop training and education programs to receive regular chapter status.

"SWANA's expansion into the Caribbean will provide training and education opportunities for solid waste professionals in that important part of the world," said John Skinner, executive director and CEO of SWANA, in a press release.

SWANA currently has 45 chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
