The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Md., has purchased 100 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents on the Chicago Climate Exchange from Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County Solid Waste Authority. The credits will be used to offset emissions from the association’s 2008 events.

“SWANA is known as an organization that informs its members about how to be stewards of the environment, said John Skinner, executive director and CEO of SWANA, in a press release. “By purchasing these offsets, we’re leading by example.”
