The U.S. House of Representatives has unanimously passed a bill that would allow states to regulate or ban imports of municipal solid waste from other countries.

The Detroit Free Press reports that this could stop the nearly 4 million tons of trash shipped into Michigan each year and could prompt reprisals that would hurt U.S. businesses. The bill, H.R. 518, is sponsored by U.S. Rep Mike Rogers, R-Mich, and U.S. Rep John Dingell, D-Mich.
