Canadian Resident Files Complaint over Neighborhood Bin Scavengers
Liba Bender, a resident in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, has filed a complaint over neighborhood bin scavengers who are trying to make quick cash.
Bender explains that it isn’t the needy that are bothering her; it is the people in two vans who make routine stops in the neighborhood to load up on recyclables.
The City of Ottawa only responds to actions like this if a complaint is filed, which is exactly what has happened. By law, the scavengers could face fines up to $10,000 for stealing from blue bins.
CTV Ottawa has the details:
Should neighbours and passersby be able to take bottles out of your recycling bin for the cash refund?
That question was at the centre of a debate sparked in an Ottawa neighbourhood recently when a resident filed a complaint over recycling bin scavenging.
Liba Bender says it’s fine if genuinely needy people rifle through her recycling bin at the curb. But she draws the line at opportunists out to make a quick buck.
